National Hurricane Center forecast
Hurricane Irene is crossing over the Carolina coast, on course for the Delmarva peninsula, New Jersey and New York City. Cape May County is likely to take a direct hit from the storm. I love Cape May. This was the first summer in years I didn't visit there. New York and New Jersey mass transit will be suspended after noon Saturday. Storm surge map of Jersey City after the jump.
New Jersey Office of Emergency Management
Purple is a category one and two hurricane; light red is a category three and four.
Right now, the National Hurricane Center is putting the chance of more than two feet of water in Jersey City at 10-20 percent. Whatever that means. Heavy flooding, however, is expected along the Raritan River and Arthur Kill. Maybe they're just waiting to update the N.Y.C. forecast.
Whatever happens, there will be an incredible amount of rain and lots of flooding. I know my neighborhood will probably flood. We're doing what we can.
